Get Google Earth Now!

Date June 30th, 2005

If you don’t already have it, go and get the client for Google Earth now.
It is without doubt the best planet navigation system available today. The inclusion of an overlay layer which displays 3D renderings of buildings in certain US cities alone, along with visual route planning set it above the World Wind client from NASA.
The level of detail on certain well-known landmarks across the globe is exceptional. The client allows you to save a profile containing placemarks (like visual bookmarks) and planned routes.
Gary said to me today that Microsoft are planning something similar, but better, apparently.

Have a look at http://www.flashearth.com/ – google earth only allows you to zoom in so far but the maps on this site use google local and windows local live so you can zoom in much closer – those of us outside Dundee, Edinburgh and Glasgow can now get better detail. Not sure how up-to-date the images are – Sainsbury isn’t there yet.
