Seaforth Hotel Blaze

Date August 9th, 2006

I woke this morning to hear on the breakfast news that the Seaforth Hotel was ablaze. I drove down on my way to work, and sure enough, there is huge of plume black smoke rising from the structure and several tenders present.

According to the news, people as far away as Montrose were ringing the Fire Brigade to report it.

So the cost of repairing it and upgrading it was thought to be around £2 million, which was deemed to be not viable; knocking it down wouldn’t have gone down too well with the town’s residents; and planning permission for a block of luxury apartments was recommended for refusal by Angus Planning chiefs?

It seems as though a mysterious blaze to make it structurally unsound was the best thing that could’ve happened as regards starting afresh.

I’ve posted the photos into a new gallery.
